She first became interested in music while on tour with the singing group The Pointer Sisters in 1985. She later collaborated with the band on various tracks for multiple albums.

Issa took over for group founder June, who had quit due to drug problems and eventually became ill, in 2002. She took over as her aunt’s permanent replacement after two years. Her aunt June died of lung cancer in 2006. This vocalist, along with her mother and aunt Anita, led the Pointers to a successful resurgence in Europe with their duet hit with Natalia Druyts on a rendition of “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves.”
